SSTRA is pleased to announce that our EFW pilot project “Leading Our Way Through Anxiety” is the successful recipient of a Salt Spring Island Foundation Community
Project Grant!
Equine facilitated wellness (EFW) is a therapeutic approach that involves working in respectful
relationship with equine partners.
This pilot project offers two EFW therapy groups for youth (12+) with anxiety (summer and fall) and a separate parent workshop.
Youth will learn about anxiety and ways to manage anxiety symptoms through group discussion,
mindfulness practice, and experiential activities with horses. All activities will be on the ground. No horse experience required and no riding involved.

As little as one hour a week!
The Salt Spring Therapeutic Riding Association offers four riding sessions per year in the fall, winter, spring and summer. Lessons are one hour every week. Our classes are taught by therapeutic riding instructors, and our riders are assisted by trained volunteers, as horse leaders and/or sidewalkers.
